Professional development: supporting positive food learning and mealtime practices.

I offer practical, evidence-based professional development and consultancy to Early Education and Care Services, working in partnership with educators to build their confidence in supporting children at mealtimes and in delivering developmentally-appropriate food learning experiences.

Together, we can explore how to respond to “fussy” or “picky” eating behaviours, support neutral and pressure-free food exploration, create calm and positive mealtime environments, and navigate the everyday conversations that can shape children’s life-long beliefs and experiences about food and bodies.

I tailor support to your service’s needs, drawing on your educators’ experiences, the expectations of families and the children in your care and the goals of your service.

Through reflective practice workshops we can explore:

  • Understanding “fussy” or “picky” eating and why children may be hesitant to try new foods

  • Strategies for creating calm, positive and inclusive mealtime environments

  • Responding to common mealtime challenges with confidence

  • What to say (and what to not to say) about food, eating and bodies

  • Reflecting on how everyday experiences and messages can influence children’s relationships with food and their bodies

  • Developmentally-appropriate and playful ways to learn about food and build food knowledge outside of mealtimes
